Beautiful Day Trip!

Although the glass bottom boat ride and snorkeling trip got cancelled due to weather, our day in the city of Heraklion, Crete was one of my favorite days in Crete so far. A group of us left Monday morning to catch a bus to Heraklion- a city about 40 minutes away. After arriving, we split off into two groups. Some of the girls wanted to catch a movie at the cinema. The rest of us walked around town to get lunch, do some shopping, and explore. After eating a tasty hamburger at a cafĂ© in town, we stopped in a few shops (including the most exciting stop of the day- Starbucks!) and then made our way to the port. On the water, we discovered the Venetian Fortress. Before exploring the fortress, built to protect the city, we walked around the port, taking hundreds of photos of the water, the mountains, and all the cute little fishing boats. When we got to the top of the fortress, the view of the water and the mountains of Crete was amazing. We spent the majority of the day in the city. We were all exhausted by the time we got on the bus back to Hersonissos. Even though I love the little village we’re staying in, it was so much fun to go and explore the city of Heraklion.
